A Personal Learning Network, otherwise known as a PLN, is a network where professionals can grow in their skills. They can learn new information about what is happening in their field and stay in touch with other professionals in their field around the world. PLNs are important in order to stay up to date in your profession. A lot can change in just a few years. By having a PLN professionals can learn about anything new that is being discovered in their fields. PLNs can be great for teachers, in particular. Teaching is all about sharing ideas with each other. This is why PLNs are great for teachers. PLNs allow for an informal platform for teachers to share what they are using in their classrooms.
By using a PLN, personally, I have been able to connect with veteran teachers. They are always more than willing to answer my questions. They are always excited when I join in in their discussions. These teachers love to learn what education majors are learning about in college. I have been able to begin to learn some teaching practices that I would like to implement into my future thanks to these discussions. I will continue to participate in their discussions and grow my PLN in the following years.
Building a PLN fits under the Danielson Framework Domain 4e: Growing and Developing Professionally. By having a PLN, teachers are able to learn new methods that are being used in education. This will help teachers to maximize their success and help their students to succeed. One of the elements under Domain 4e is "service to this profession." This element states that teachers should regularly participate in educational groups, strive for leadership positions, and support their fellow teachers. PLNs are a great way to collaborate with fellow teachers and participate in group discussions.
In order to maintain my PLN, I plan on continuing to participate in Twitter Chats. They are a great way to connect with teachers around the world. I also plan on keeping my Weebly website up to date. I will upload future projects that are connected to the Danielson Framework. If I find any websites that I think would be useful for teachers to use in the classroom, I will make a write-up about them. Keeping my PLN up to date will help to bring about my success in teaching.
