I used Kahoot to create a quiz that can be used as a classroom activity. Kahoot is an interactive website where a teacher creates an account and can then create quizzes for their students. The quizzes can be about whatever the teacher chooses. After the quiz is created, the students can get access to it by entering a code into the website. Then the teacher starts the game. The question flashes across the screen for a few seconds. Then it disappears, and the students must pick the correct answer out of the four possible answers. The students receive a score after each questions based on whether or not it was correct and their speed on answering the question. Each of the students is going against each other to try to come in first place. Kahoot is a fun tool to bring some friendly competition into the classroom while the students are practicing their knowledge.
Kahoot fits under the Danielson Framework of Domain 1f: Assessing Student Knowledge. This is because the quizzes that are used in Kahoot show the teacher what the students do or do not know. After each quiz is completed, the teacher gains access to a document that summarizes how students answered the questions and how quickly they answered them. This allows the teacher to fully know what their students did or did not know. The teacher can then re-teach what topics need to be covered again.
I will 100% be using Kahoot in my future classroom. As a student, I loved when my class would play Kahoot. All of the students in my class would become very engaged in the competition, and everyone would gladly participate. I want my students to have the same positive experience that I had. I will use Kahoot to create different quizzes for my students to practice to engage them in learning.
Kahoot fits under the ISTE Standard of Designer. The website allows teachers to create their own quizzes based on their current lesson plans. Teachers are able to have complete control with Kahoot to create questions that are specifically designed to challenge the minds of their students. Kahoot also fits under the ISTE Standard of Collaborator. On Kahoot, each teacher is required to put a hashtag in the description of the quiz that they created. This allows teachers worldwide to be able to search a hashtag and see all of the quizzes that coincide with that particular subject. Kahoot allows teachers around the globe to work together to challenge the minds of our learners.
Kahoot works with idea of growth mindset to help the students grow in their knowledge. The website clearly tells the students which answers are correct and which ones are not. The students will begin to recognize which topics they do not understand. This will help the students to want to study those topics more, so when they play the quiz again, they will know what the answer is. Kahoot encourages students to continue to work hard, even if they are in last place.
I used Kahoot to create a grammar quiz for my virtual co-op's classroom. She had me put a simple word in the question section and put either noun, verb, or adjective as the possible answers. Her students would have to identify whether the word was a noun, a verb, or an adjective. Here is what the Kahoot quiz that I created looks like...
